A spoof edition to the New York Times, dated July 4, 2009, was created by political spoof group The Yes Men and handed out in NY and LA on 11/13/08 with commentary on concerns including climate change and pollution indicating new policies they would like to see. It can be viewed at www.nytimes-se.com (se=spoof edition). Among the clickable front page articles is “Nationalized Oil to Fund Climate Change Efforts,” describing a “vote” by Congress “to place…major oil companies [and their profits] under public stewardship.” At the lower right of the page is a spoof ad “by” a chemical company describing how they are going to comply with “the new organic food mandate which prohibits pesticides and rewards local production” by using “ladybugs for pest control. A ladybug can eat up to 50 pests every day without harming plants--making this little insect as effective as any pesticide.”
