Enjoy cocktails, cutting-edge science, and conversation at this popular after-hours series, which takes place on the first Wednesday of every month.
Snake venom can be extremely dangerous to humans, but it may also be the source for unique cancer-fighting compounds. Join professor Frank Markland as he shares promising cancer research that examines poison as a potential cure.
Frank Markland is a professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine and has served as the school’s Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs. His team has found compounds and proteins in snake venom that can break up blood clots, potentially fight cancer, and are being developed by pharmaceutical companies.
Proudly sponsored by Judy and Josh Weston.
This project was supported by the National Center for Research Resources and the Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives of the National Institutes of Health through Grant Number R25 OD011093.
